Properties

Ecowool unique property

With low thermal conductivity ecowool is able to bind moisture within the fibers and remove it outside (breathe) without changing the thermal-insulating properties. Since ecowool fibers are cellulose, not glass or stone, at high humidity their capillaries absorb moisture (capillary absorption is widespread in nature: it determines the rise of juices in plants), it does not accumulate between the fibers, so the space between them remains dry and thermal conductivity of ecowool does not change. Moreover, it remains unchanged until the moisture in the material reaches 23%. The average values of ecowool humidity in constructions, regardless of the season and the thickness of the layer, are in the range from 8% to 15%. Moisture does not accumulate in the layer of ecowool, but removes outside into the atmosphere. It is proved not only by researches but also by the practice of using the constructions with ecowool insulator (without vapor barrier) in Finland and Sweden, Britain, Germany, the United States and Canada.

ecowool humidity

Ecowool humidity is consistent with the moisture in its environment. Due to this property to "breathe", houses insulated with ecowool can and should be built without vapor barriers. Fluctuations of relative humidity do not affect the thermal insulation ability of the material. When the water accident happens ecowool is able to absorb water 5-6 times more than its mass, as a result no water gets into other parts of the construction, and when drying ecowool does not lose its qualities.

Thermal insulation

High thermal insulating properties of ecowool (λ= 0,037 W / mK) are caused by the good insulating ability of the air contained between the fibers in ecowool, a small stream of air through a layer of ecowool (air permeability ~ 65h10-6 m ³ / MsPa to compare mineral wool ~ 120-160h10-6 m ³ / MsPa) which is explained by a fine-fibered structure of ecowool and a good thermal-insulating ability of cellulosic fibers. The real insulating ability is significantly higher than that of plate materials, as it has no seams, joints, cracks and the material is not tightly fit to basis.

Ecological purity

Ecowool is an absolutely ecologically pure heater. Its production does not cause any damage to nature. Ecological purity provides ecowool with exceptional advantages in comparison with mineral wool plates, foam, etc. Ecowool simply does not contain volatile, harmful for health substances.

Fire-preventive properties

Ecowool is a hardly flammable material, as confirmed by a certificate. It maintains its insulating capacity at a fire and effectively slows down the spread of fire in the constructions. When the temperature rises, crystallization water of retardant is released, allowing ecowool to resist the effects of the fire. Being heated ecowool does not emit toxic gases.

Constructions protection

Ecowool provides effective protection of the insulated surface from rot, fungi, insects and rodents due to the presence of boric antiseptics. This feature allows using ecowool widely in agriculture, in the country houses, warehouses, etc.

Manufacturability

Ecowool is extremely technological. A progressive method of its installation (in an industrial environment and with large volumes of work) is the method of spraying with the use of a blowing machine M-500. The blowing machine is compact, has a capacity of 5 kW, and permits to lift ecowool to the height of 30 m, remove up to 60 m. It is due to the fact that it is installed in the insulated space by spraying or pulverizing, itpenetrates into the most hard-to-get cavities and gaps, and forms a tight seamless layer of insulation. Ecowool density in horizontal joists should be about 30-35kg/m ³, in the sloping (with a slope of not more than 1:3) - 40-45 kg/m³, in the vertical walls - 45 kg/m ³. Ecowool has many purposes: it is designed for thermal insulation of the upper joists and walls, as well as for their moisture and sound insulation, etc. In addition to thermal insulation of dwelling houses ecowool is also well suited for the insulation of industrial, commercial and agricultural buildings and food stores. The main fields of ecowool application are: heat insulation of buildings, cottages and country houses (here the insulator is installed on the top, bottom and sloping ceilings and on the walls), repair of old buildings that have, for example, uninsulated cavities that need to be filled with thermal insulation without the constructions disassembly; insulation of various metal, concrete and other constructions (hangars, warehouses, garages, etc.) by wet blowing on the inner surface. At the same time the problems of sound insulation and improving acoustic properties of buildings, limiting condensation, and the danger of fungus, mould, insects and rodents are solved.

Cost Efficiency

Ecowool has a number of advantages, which should be taken notice of. Ecowool application is non-waste . This means that you will have no scraps left after the installation. In addition, when reconstructing a building you’ll be able to remove the insulator out of the niche between the lags, and then use it again. You will only have to "break" a slightly pressed from time "slab", "fluff" the ecowool, as it was done at the first installation. That's all. Try to use any other heater again. You will fail to do it as easily as with ecowool, especially if you're trying to put it into a niche between the lags of a size different from the one out of which you took the heater. If you heat your house with ecowool, you will not need vapor barrier film. As an organic loose insulator, ecowool makes a whole unit with the wooden structure of the house. In addition, the boron compounds used in ecowool as antiseptics protect the wooden structures covered with ecowool from microorganisms, mould and wood-destroying fungi, rodents. In general, thanks to it the house "breathes", and you forget what dampness in the house and mice in the pantry are.

Soundproofing

A large amount of sound energy is transmitted through the gaps and voids in the walls, floor and ceiling joints. Sprayed in the place of coating ecowool creates a soundproof wall. In this case the fine-structured fibers penetrate into the smallest hollows of the insulated space. If the wall construction consists, for example, of a wooden frame 75 mm thick, lined on both sides with gypsum tiles 13 mm thick, its sound-insulating capacity is RW = 37dB. After installing 25 mm of ecowool on one side of the inner surface of the plates the insulating capacity of the wall construction rises to 46 dB. Increasing the thickness of ecowool by 5 cm will increase on the average the insulating capacity by 4.5 dB. This property makes ecowool indispensable for soundproofing of dwelling houses, which are located in various places of entertainment: restaurants, nightclubs, discotheques, etc.

Weight

Ecowool is relatively low in weight. For joists it is 30-35 kg/m³, for walls - 45 kg/m³. This allows reducing the weight of the construction itself, as well as the load on the individual elements of the construction.

Exploitation Period

In Finland, houses insulated with ecowool 80 years ago were examined. The composition and the original form of the insulator didn’t change. Not many heaters can “live” so long. The cost of owning the insulator is zero, i.e. it needs no additional costs for maintenance or replacement in the course of time.
